IN A NUTSHELL...

The South Plains Kidney Foundation of West Texas (SPKF) is the leading health organization dedicated to the issues of all renal diseases related to the kidney and urinary tract. The foundation supports programs in research, professional education, patient and community services, public education and organ donation. The foundation was originally founded in 1972 by a group of concerned physicians, businessmen, patients and family members. We were later re-formed in 2012 with the same mission. Our growth has prompted us to expand our services for those who suffer from kidney disease.

WHAT WE DO

The South Plains Kidney Foundation of West Texas (SPKF) is a dedicated, locally operated non-profit based in Lubbock focused on raising awareness, supporting patients, and advancing care for kidney and urinary tract disorders across West Texas. Unlike national groups, SPKF keeps all donations within the community, directly aiding families and individuals affected by chronic kidney disease (CKD), kidney failure, transplants, urinary tract infections, and related health challenges.

Patient & Community Support:
SPKF offers comprehensive assistance that tackles kidney disease’s practical and emotional impacts. Our services include transportation aid, utility and rent support, prescription assistance, and connections to food/clothing pantries, healthcare services, and mental-health resources. We also host support groups open to dialysis patients, transplant recipients, caregivers, and families, providing education, encouragement, and advocacy in a group setting.

Education & Advocacy:
Professional development is central to SPKF’s mission. We coordinate continuing education events, such as medical symposiums and CME/CNE credit opportunities for healthcare providers, plus community-focused programs including our Kidney Splash Fest and patient‑family Symposium, all designed to further enhance knowledge and prevention measures.

Awareness & Fundraising:
SPKF’s dynamic event calendar promotes public education and raises essential funds locally. Annual highlights include Kidney Splash Fest, a fun family event, plus signature dinners, fashion shows, and other activities, engaging local businesses and volunteers to boost visibility and drive donations.

Organ & Living Donation Support:
The foundation actively supports organ donation by collaborating with Donate Life Texas to encourage living kidney donations and improve transplant access for patients on waiting lists.
